 - Blofield United Youth Football Club

U13's League

Welcome:

This is the Under 13's Page. The team play in the Norfolk Youth Football Combination (NYFC) and had a very up and down 2008/9 season. Having started really well, we hit Christmas and a collapse of form and self-belief. The team are now preparing for their third season in 11 a side football and successfully remain in the very tough NYFC 1st Division. It has been very hard with the bigger City teams dominating but the team have earned respect by continuing to playing flowing passing football and engaging with other teams in a very sporting way.

There is a real social feel to the team which runs through the players, parents, family and friends. Ultimately, football is balanced with fun and enjoyment.

When you get a chance why not take a look at the Gallery, there are pictures of our team in there....

Team News:

The season has now ended and the team has stopped training for the summer. The team has started to prepare for next season with some summer tournaments. A fantastic display at the Sprowston 5-a-side in May saw the team finish as winners of the Plate competition against some very tough teams from all over the county. This was followed by a 4th place finish at the recent PowerLeague 5-a-side, where the team battled with the very slippery conditions to play some fantastic quick passing football.

The close season continued on Friday 24 July with the Worsted Festival Football Display, where the team won the tournament. Well done boys!

Worsted Festival Tournament 2009

The tournament was organised and managed by the RAF as part of the major events for the Worsted Festival. Taking place in the Centre Display Ring meant that the boys were a central attraction for the Festival and were seen by everyone attending one of the most renowned festivals in Norfolk.

We started pretty poorly and a few players looked low on energy and uninterested. We had 2 matches to play to try and gain an automatic place in the Semi Final but in our first game our touch and play was well below what we could do. Losing that game 2-0 we went into the second game needing a win. The team lifted its game and started to pass the ball, move and play some outstanding build up football. Chances were created again and again, but unfortunately the goal just wouldn’t come and the game ended as a 0-0 draw. We had to play in the Play Off.

Worsted 0 v 1 Blofield

We were up against the Host’s in the Play Off and they had all the support. They were really confident that they could beat our team and came out with all guns blazing. Soaking up that initial pressure our players started to take control of the game and passed and carried the ball with style and confidence. Chances were created but once again we just couldn’t finish. Nat and Joe carried the ball well, while Taylor was fantastic in the centre, winning everything and creating each Blofield move. Connor made a nuisance of himself, linking and being an outlet for the team. At the back Alex Moody in goal looked far more confident and assured, claiming everything in his area well. In front of him Alex Cole was solid, while the debutant Devin was a real terrier. The goal eventually came with Connor picking up loose ball in the area and striking it home. James Mortishire was a worthy second half substitute allowing the team to change its’ shape and continue the pressure on Worsted. The game was a great show of football from Blofield.

Blofield 1 v 0 Cringleford

Cringleford were a big team and very physical. They had steam rollered their way into the semis through physical strength and power. At first Blofield looked taken aback at the physical nature of the game, but seemed to spark into life when Devin and Taylor dug in and made some crucial tackles against much bigger players. Taylor started to win everything in the midfield and once again Nat, Joe and Connor started to work the ball and peg Cringleford back in their half. Devin and Alex C were able to step up and this meant Alex M in goal hardly had a save to make. Again the team just couldn’t break through, until a slow build up saw the ball moved around from right to left. Joe picked up the ball and ran at the two defenders creating the half chance for a shot which he drove well into the roof of the net. Once again James came on in the second half to offer a different aspect to the team, which proved again really effective and allowed the team to run out winners and into the final.

Blofield 1 v 0 Mundsley

Mundsley came out in the final looking very confident. They had beaten Blofield in opening game of the tournament and put out a very strong team from a large squad. Once more they were big, strong and physical. They are started very physically pushing and tackling hard, pressing Blofield back. Once again Devin sparked the team by getting stuck in and not showing any fear. This inspired the team to push back and be more aggressive. Taylor was on fire and challenged every ball with real strength effort and skill. Joe was silky with his ball carrying but couldn’t find the target. Connor was once more a fantastic outlet, while Nat was really creative. Alex C looked fired up and started to believe in himself, tackling well and making some killer passes. Alex M in goal was really sharp and quick to claim anything in his area. James again as second half sub looked keen and provided the team with a chance to be more solid. The winning goal came from Joe after a slick move that started with a great long pass from Alex C to Nat. Taking control of the ball and using his feet he found Conner who slipped the ball to Taylor who worked the ball left to Joe. Once again Joe dropped his shoulder and glided past the defender before letting loose a firm strike that nestled into the left of the net.

Alex M – Kept 3 Clean Sheets and looked confident as the day went on. He gave a great performance in every game.

Alex Co – Started slowly and looked out of sorts but dug deep and showed some real class with his passing and vision.

Devin – An outstanding start to his Blofield career. He was dogged and determined, balancing his desire with good distribution and team play.

Taylor – A fantastic display in every area of his game. His tackling, heading, passing and shooting were all first class.

Connor – Quietly went about his job with great skill and class, he had a brilliant tournament.

Joe – A great tournament and was on top form shooting, his classy dribbling and shooting is a joy to watch.

James – A solid and good team performance, he took on board what he had to do and did it well.

Nat – Like Connor he went about his day quietly chipping away with touch and skill, using his gift to be creative. He was awarded Player of the Tournament by the Organisers which capped a great day.

Sprowston Tournament 2009

Sprowston Tournament Team Talk

This has always been a good tournament for our team. This year was the same, with the boys turning around a very poor start into a very successful day, winning the Plate Tournament.

Having lost our first two games the team looked down and out against some very strong teams from all over the county. Many of the players were of a high calibre and after failing to progress in the main competition the team picked up the challenge for the Plate Trophy. The team swept aside an Old Catton and a Sprowston team to get through to the semi finals of the Plate, where they met old competition with a team from Hethersett. A resounding 2-0 win was capped by some great goalkeeping from Alex Moody and inspirational play from Joe. With injury to Nat ruling him out of the last few games the team was restructured with Ryan playing out on field. Connor was fired up and Ashley playing for the last time in a Blofield shirt was doing his best to impress.

The Final

Blofield 2 v 0 Thetford Reds

This was a remarkable finish to a remarkable turnaround day for our team Similar to the Semi-Final with Hethersett, Thetford were well supported and eager to beat us but our team played with desire and skill. Our tackling and passing was first class, complete with more top drawer finishing from Joe. The team played with so much confidence that they had won the trophy by half time (in their heads and hearts) and really looked like real winners.
